HW from 12/13/12

Due on 12/18/12:

* Seth and Joshua H. only: AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE, email me your revised copy of your original first-person essay describing why you are thankful for your parents. I will email you feedback before you proceed to the next assignment, listed below:

* Translate your first-person essay about your parents to a second-person letter to your parents. (This is what you worked on yesterday in class and showed to your classmate for approval.)

* Save a new copy of your essay so that in the end you will have a copy of both the first-person essay and the second-person letter.  Type up the second-person letter by making changes to the first-person essay but don't save over the third-person essay

* DO NOT "SOFTEN" THE LANGUAGE IN THE FIRST-PERSON ESSAY AS YOU TRANSLATE IT TO SECOND PERSON. Leave the language the same and only change it to second-person. Be willing to express thanks this way even if it makes you a little uncomfortable.

NOTE: For times you used "my parents," replace it with "you" or "both of you" or "you guys" or even, "you, Mom and Dad," (or whatever you actually call them, if different).

* Email me a copy of the second-person letter as soon as you can.

* Feel free to bring a non-messy food to share on Tuesday if you want, but you don't have to. We won't have much chance to eat while we make our Christmas letters!

Memorize Psalm 141:3, "Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips" (NIV84).  You will need to be able to recite it from memory before break.

* Decide if you and/or your family would like to take up the challenge to memorize Romans 12 (yes, the entire chapter) between now and when we return from break. My family is doing so. I will give you and extra 100 test grade when I average grades if you do so.

ALSO:
Reading for Reading Log: 30 minutes daily. (Reading Log is usually due, signed by parent, at the end of the month.  This month it will be due when we return from Christmas break, on Thursday, January 3.)

HW from 12/6/12

Due on 12/11/12:

* Make a "memory card" (literal--on an index card--or virtual--in the Fighter Verse app) for the memory verse Psalm 141:3, "Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips" (NIV84).  Memorize the verse. You will need to say it for me from memory before Christmas break.

* Write a 3-paragraph essay in first person point of view describing why you are thankful for your parents. Use standard 3-paragraph essay form and type the paper according to our conventional standards for typed assignments. (See previous blog entries for details.)

* Use the feedback you received from your peer editor on your season essay to help you with your thankfulness essay. Return both essays (and your notes) to class on Tuesday.

* Choose the lyrics to a favorite Christmas song.  Make sure they all fit on one page--feel free to cut and paste from the Internet--and email it to me before Monday.

ALSO:
* Reading for Reading Log: 30 minutes daily. (Reading Log is usually due, signed by parent, at the end of the month.  This month it will be due when we return from Christmas break, on Thursday, January 3.)
