HW from Thursday, 12/14/17

Due on Tuesday, 1/2/18

Happy holidays! I will not see you again until Christmas and New Year’s have passed! Enjoy the break. You have no written homework over the holiday. Please do continue with the following over break, however:

1) Have someone silently read over your Scripture memory card for your second memory verse while you read it aloud from the handout or Bible you copied it from. Then switch and check again. Be sure it is word-for-word correct before you begin memorizing it using the card!

You will need to be ready to recite it during our second week back in January. If you have not yet recited your first verse for a grade, be ready to do so the day we return as well.

Continue to review/recite your first Scripture memory verse daily. You want to keep it in your mind so that you do not forget it. You will be called on to recite it on random days for a classwork/homework grade throughout the rest of the year.

2) Figure out a plan for sharing your gift for Christmas. Be sure to do so!

3) Continue to read for pleasure over the holiday break, and record all minutes read on your Reading Log. (You may also record minutes read in the Mark Rodriguez book, if you decide to read ahead.) The December Reading Log will be due on Tuesday, 1/2/18 (the day we return from Christmas break).

-----
Also, daily:

+ Read your (approved) book for pleasure, aiming for 30 minutes daily. Mark the number of minutes on your Reading Log as you go along—in multiples of five, rounded down—and have a parent initial it in the box each day. The December Reading Log will be due on Tuesday, 1/2/18 (the day we return from Christmas break).

+ Make your bed! :)

OPENING (oral presentation of Bible verse and prayer):

HW from Tuesday, 12/12/17

Due on Thursday, 12/14/17

1) Choose your new verse for your next class opening. Write your verse essay, using my sample essay  as a model. You need to be prepared to turn the essay in to me on Thursday. (This is different than what I told you in class. I'm sorry. I've changed my mind!) There will be a schedule for the openings to occur after Christmas on Thursday's homework blog entry.

2) Make a Scripture memory card for the other memory verse from the handout and begin memorizing it. You will need to be ready to recite it by our second week back in January. If you have not yet recited your first verse for a grade, be ready to do so in class this Thursday.

3) Print out another copy of your corrected first-person thankfulness essay (you wrote on the first one when you changed it to second-person in class) and print out your second-person thankfulness essay, which was graded and proofread by me for Tuesday's class. Print beautful, edited copies of both points of view and staple them to the top of your stack, with the final first-person essay on the very top. Bring this stack to class on Thursday.

Also, daily:

+ Read your (approved) book for pleasure, aiming for 30 minutes daily. Mark the number of minutes on your Reading Log as you go along—in multiples of five, rounded down—and have a parent initial it in the box each day. HW from Thursday, 12/7/17

Due on AND BEFORE Tuesday, 12/12/17

1) Type up the changes you made in class today to the D2 of your thankfulness essay (changing it to second person point of view), then save it as “Thankfulness Essay – D3” and email it to me before the weekend. Be sure that both your name and the name of the assignment are in the subject line of your email.

2) Make the corrections to the D2 of your descriptive setting (returned today). Save the final copy as D3. Print a lovely copy (still double-spaced), staple it on top of the graded stack, and bring the whole stack to class on Tuesday.

3) Make the corrections to the D2 of your favorite season essay (returned today). Save the final copy as D3. Print a lovely copy (still double-spaced), staple it on top of the graded stack, and bring the whole stack to class on Tuesday.

4) Continue to memorize your Scripture memory verse, using the “Guidelines for Memorization” handout I gave you. Practice reciting it out loud, word for word! You must be ready to recite it for a grade next Tuesday.

5) Be sure you have read up to page 98 in Mark’s journal. Feel free to continue reading ahead, as you will be required to read some of the journal over Christmas break. You may count the minutes you spend reading Mark’s journal on your reading log if you are struggling to find time to get all your reading done.

6) If you would like, you may go ahead and make your next Scripture memory card, using the opposite verse (from the handout) of the one you’ve already memorized. You will make a card and begin memorizing your second verse over the Christmas holiday.
