HW from Thursday, 11/9/17

Due on Tuesday, 11/14/17

1) Read pages 15-49 in the Mark Rodriguez book. You may read more if you would like, but you should read through all of Part I (to page 49) before next Tuesday.

2) Visit this link and read the article about keeping your room clean. (Yes, I'm serious!)

"What? First it was 'making my bed' and now it’s 'cleaning my room'? What does that have to do with creative writing?" you might ask.

Go visit the link and then come back and we'll talk...

3) Go make your bed and clean your room. (Yes, I'm serious! Trust me. You'll thank me!) Get your room as tidy and cleaned up as you can.

4) Have your parent sign a paper that indicates that you made your bed and tidied up your room and that it looks great.

5) Speaking of the benefits of having things orderly and tidy, please get your notebook in perfect order before Tuesday. File all the papers in the correct sections and be sure everything is in the right place. I will be checking your notebook on Tuesday.

6) Be prepared for a quiz on everything learned so far on Tuesday. Don’t freak out! Just review all your notes as you organize your notebook, and be sure you remember all the things listed under “Topics of Study, Quarter 1” on our class website. You'll do great!

7) Pray for my wrists especially, but also my hands and knee, to heal quickly and completely. It still hurts a good bit to use my arms for writing or lifting, so grading and household tasks are proving quite difficult. I need to be able to use my arms freely! Thanks!

-------
Also, daily:

+ Read your (approved) book for pleasure, aiming for 30 minutes daily. Mark the number of minutes on your Reading Log as you go along—in multiples of five, rounded down—and have a parent initial it in the box each day. The November Reading Log will be due on Thursday, 11/30/17.

+ Make your bed! :)

HW from Thursday, 11/2/17

Due ON AND BEFORE Tuesday, 11/7/17

1) Take your beautiful, corrected copy of your season essay (the D2 you turned in today) and make it single-spaced. (Select all and choose single-spacing—the computer will do it for you!) Then save that as D3 and email it to me as an attachment before the weekend. I will cut and paste them onto the blog for you to be able to share them and read each other’s.

2) Complete the handout about point of view with the three different exercises with the excerpt from Catching Fire. You may write directly on the handout, but do it neatly and clearly so that both you and I can read it easily. Please work slowly and carefully and make sure you have it right.

3) On the sheet entitled Copywork #6, complete the underlining activity as directed. If you messed up, do it over again. (Email me if you need another copy and didn’t get one today.)

4) Copy Copywork #6 as usual once you finish the underlining activity.

HW from Tuesday, 10/31/17

Due on Thursday, 11/2/17

1) Your October Reading Log calendar will be collected on Thursday. Have it ready to turn in when you walk into class.

2) Make all suggested corrections on your Favorite Season essay. Save the corrected copy as Draft 2. Print it and read it over, making sure you don't see any errors. If you find any, fix them and print it again. Then have one other person read over it and proofread it, too. Once you've fixed all errors and you're convinced your paper is perfect, print the final copy of Draft 2 and staple it to the top of the other drafts I returned to you. You will turn the entire stack in on Thursday. Have it ready to turn in at the beginning of class.

3) On the sheet entitled Copywork #6, complete the underlining activity as directed. You DO NOT need to copy the paragraph.

4) Review well for a quiz on Thursday of everything we’ve studied so far. See the link in the sidebar of the Creative Writing class page, entitled “Topics of Study, Quarter 1.” Look through and review all of your writing lessons and grammar lessons.
