Due on 4/13/10:
* Begin your short story according to the instructions on the handout I gave you. Choose whether you want to begin with a focus on the setting or the characters. Decide which point of view you will use: first or third person, past or present tense? Write at the top of your paper a sentence or two which indicate which choices you made. For example: I chose to start with the setting, and I am writing in third person point of view, past tense.
* Beneath that, skip and line or two and begin your story by writing 2-3 paragraphs (shoot for around 1 page) focused either on setting or characters. Remember to include descriptive language to make it interesting.
* You do not have to type it by Tuesday, but try to if you can. I will send you a template to use. Either way, the paper you turn in must be double-spaced. Skip a line after each line of writing if you're writing it by hand. If you are typing it, type it all out, then tell the computer to double-space it for you. Let me know if you have trouble with that, and I'll help you over the phone or via email.
* Continue to do assigned reading and mark your Reading Log. You are aiming for 20 minutes daily. Be sure to keep marking the list of books, and let me know when you need a new one. Your current Reading Log will be due, signed by your parent, on the last class period of this month.
