Due on 2/28/13:
* Review the elements of narration in preparation for the next story you will be writing. Be ready for a quiz on the elements of narration (especially the most recent one studied, plot) on Thursday.
* Be thinking about the next story you want to write. Specifically, consider:
- What theme might you like to illustrate?
- Which point of view will you write in (first or third person)?
NOTE: Third person is much more common and much easier to do well.
- Will you write in past or present tense?
NOTE: Past tense is much more common and much easier to do well.
* Type (or write out) the poem you selected for memorization. (See below for original assignment.) You will turn in a copy of your poem tomorrow.
The assignment from last Thursday: Find a book of poetry--or, with you parents' permission and/or supervision, link to a poetry site online--and find a poem that you particularly like, which you will memorize and recite for the class after the KEYS spring break.
NOTE: As you choose your poem, keep the following length requirements in mind:
- Maximum possible grade of C: memorize and recite the equivalent of one 4-line stanza, minimum.
- Maximum possible grade of B: memorize and recite the equivalent of two 4-line stanzas, minimum.
- Maximum possible grade of A: memorize and recite the equivalent of three 4-line stanzas, minimum.
*Bring your old graded copy of your springboard poem if you didn't give it to me yesterday. I will put it in your writing folder.
ALSO:
* Reading for Reading Log: 30 minutes daily. (Reading Log is usually due, signed by parent, at the end of the month. This month it will be due on Thursday, February 28.)
