HW from 3/27/14

Due on Tuesday, 4/1/14

1.  Create a Word document for your theme story.  In the header, put a line with your name and the date on it, then a second line with theme story: (identify your theme).  In the footer, put an automatic page number.

2.  Using standard formatting for our papers (see link in sidebar), start your theme story by writing only the first three paragraphs.  Follow the instructions (and see the examples) on the handout I gave you about the two conventional ways to begin a story.

3.  Email the document as an attachment to the Markup address.  (See sidebar.)

4.  An email attachment of your March blog post must be sent to me (at my regular email address, not Markup) before April 1.  Also, bring a hard copy of the post to class on Tuesday if you haven't given me one already.  You may want to go ahead and write your April entry now, before we get deep into our study of poetry and writing our theme stories.

5.  Your March reading log is due next Tuesday, signed.

6.  Be sure you are ready to recite your third memory verse on Tuesday.  All students should be prepared to recite any of the first three verses at any time, and should be working on memorizing the fourth.

7.  Danielle, Emily, Heidi, Sam: In addition to all other work listed above, you must revise your red copy of the mystery story into a completed, revised G2 by Tuesday.  I will not accept your G2 past Tuesday.

Also (daily):

Read your (approved) book for pleasure 30 minutes daily.  Mark it on your reading log as you go along. The March reading log is due, signed by a parent, on Tuesday, April 1.

Bear in mind that your monthly blog post entry is due anytime during the month.  Please type it up, email it to me, and turn in a hard copy to me in class before the last day of the month.  You may write about anything you would like to.  Follow the directions on the sheet I gave you for the 12-Months-of-2014 Blog Challenge.  (See handout.)

+ Work on your Scripture memory and Scripture memory review.  You need to be ready to recite any of your completed memory verses perfectly from memory any time I call on you in class.

+ Review daily the material from our writing and grammar lessons in class so that you can more easily learn and memorize (as we go along) the different things we are studying.  Be ready for a quiz anytime on all that we've learned so far.

HW from 3/11/14

Due on Thursday, 3/13/14

1.  Nothing new is due tomorrow.  Make sure you've turned in all previous assignments and especially make sure you're caught up with the following:

* Be sure your first two memory verses are word perfect, and spend some time memorizing the third (which is due for recitation after Spring Break).

* If you haven't done your March blog post yet, you might take advantage of the lighter homework load to do that, or some extra reading for the reading log.  (But those items are not due until the end of the month, as usual.)

* Be giving some thought about your final story:
- What do you want your setting to be (time and place)?
- Who will your characters be?
- What events might you like to have as part of your plot?
- What point-of-view are planning to use (first- or third-person?)
- What theme might you like to illustrate? (We'll talk more about theme tomorrow.)

2.  If you were confused and thought you did not need to do so, so you didn't turn one in yesterday, take the second open-notebook quiz using your notebook, your Writers Inc book, or any other resources that are not people.  The quiz, which was reformatted and contains the same material in a much better format, was emailed to you.  You did need to do it, regardless of how you feel you did on the first one.

3.  Work on your mystery story as indicated in previous posts, if you haven't yet turned in a revised red copy.  You must do so tomorrow.

Also (daily):

Read your (approved) book for pleasure 30 minutes daily.  Mark it on your reading log as you go along. The March reading log is due, signed by a parent, on  Tuesday, April 1.

HW from 3/6/14

Due on Tuesday, 3/11/14

1.
Retake your open-notebook quiz using your notebook, your Writers Inc book, or any other resources that are not people.  The quiz, which has been reformatted but contains the same material, will be emailed to you.  You will turn this new quiz in on Tuesday, and I will average the two quiz scores together for your final quiz grade.

2.
Work on your mystery story as indicated below:

     a) If you have been given back your D2, do all final revisions and give your story a clever title.  Then email a perfect copy of your mystery story to me for posting on the blog. Once you have your D2 back, you have until the next class period to email me the revised story for the blog.

     b) If you have submitted your D2 (which is your revision of your "red copy" D1) but have not received it back from me, wait to receive the paper back from me.  (You have no more work to do on the story until you get your D2 back!)  Once you have it back, you will have until the next class period to make the final revisions and complete the process as indicated in (a) above.

     c) If you have been given back your graded "red copy" D1, revise your D1 as indicated on your red copy into a perfect final draft (your D2).  All D2s are due Tuesday except those belonging to students with a red note from me on your envelope.  Please print your D2 and put it in the envelope with all your other materials, to be turned in on Tuesday.

     d) If you were given a red note on your envelope and I was unable to grade your D1--this applies to only a handful of you--please assemble the missing materials and re-submit your printed D1 with the missing materials (all in the envelope together) on Tuesday.

     e) If you are one of the two students who saw me during lunch and will be significantly revising your D1 before it is re-submitted and graded by me, please do the revisions we discussed and email the revised D1 paper to me ASAP.  Also bring your proofed/signed copy back to me on Tuesday, to be put back in your envelope (which I have so I can grade your D1 as soon as you email it to me).

3. Continue to memorize your new Scripture memory verse and to review your old ones.  All students will recite their second verses (for a grade) before Spring Break.  You will need to be ready to recite your third verse by the first class after Spring Break.

Also (daily):

Read your (approved) book for pleasure 30 minutes daily.  Mark it on your reading log as you go along. The February reading log is due, signed by a parent, on  Tuesday, April 1.

+ Bear in mind that your monthly blog post entry in due anytime during the month.  Please type it up, email it to me, and turn in a hard copy to me in class before the last day of the month.  You may write about anything you would like to.  Follow the directions on the sheet I gave you for the 12-Months-of-2014 Blog Challenge.  (See handout.)
