HW from Tuesday, 11/1/16

Due on Thursday, 11/3/16

1) Print a copy of the beautiful, single-spaced final draft of your descriptive setting, which you emailed to me last weekend and which I posted on the Student Writing Samples blog. Staple it to the top of all your Descriptive Setting drafts; you will turn in the entire paper (all the drafts of your descriptive setting, stapled together) on Thursday. Get it ready and put it in your notebook now so you don't forget it!

2) Finish the handout we did in class—the one using the story Put Me in the Zoo and which began, "Below are some sentences adapted from the text..."—by translating the bottom section (below the dotted line) from first-person to third-person point of view. Follow the directions on the handout carefully, and call the assignment Translate POV when you prepare it hot dog-bun style to turn it in.)

[NOTE: I have emailed you a copy of the handout so that, if you choose, you may cut and paste the paragraph into your own Word document and easily make the changes right there. If you choose this option, please give your paper a proper heading (in a header) and make your paper double-spaced, for ease of grading. You will then just print it out and turn it in on Thursday. Do not email it to me.]

3) If you are in CWA, I neglected to get your October Reading Log from you, and I didn't give you a November Reading Log. Be prepared to turn in your signed October Reading Log on Thursday, and keep track of today's and Wednesday's reading (and the gratitude journal checks) on your own paper until you can get a new Reading Log on Thursday.

4) Study for a final Quarter 1 quiz on everything we've studied so far. Use the study guide I gave you today (entitled Creative Writing – First Quarter Review) to make sure you're prepared. We will take the quiz in class on Thursday; be sure you know it backwards and forwards and are prepared to work quickly!

Also, daily:
+ Read your (approved) book for pleasure, aiming for at least 30 minutes daily. Mark the number of minutes on your Reading Log (in multiples of five, rounded down) as you go along.

+ Write in your Gratitude Journal, aiming for three things but listing at least one thing you are thankful for daily. When you have done so, place a check mark in the top corner of your Reading Log calendar for that day.

The November Reading Log is due, signed by a parent, on Thursday, 12/1/16.
