HW from Tuesday, 4/24/18

Due on Thursday, 4/26/18

1) Make all corrections to your iambic poem that we worked on together in class. Type up the corrected poem in correct poetic form—use stanzas, but otherwise don’t double-space. Print a copy to bring to class on Thursday.

2) Check this entry to be sure you have the same form of your memory poem(s) as the one listed at the link. (Email me if you believe there is a discrepancy.) If your poem(s) appears here, it is approved and you may begin memorizing. If your poem does not appear here, I have not received it, and it is overdue. Contact me with your choice ASAP!

3) Print a correct copy of your poem(s) and bring to class on Thursday. You will recite these poems from memory on Tuesday, 5/8.

4) Continue working to finish your theme story. Unless it is finished in fewer pages, you should have at least 20 pages of the story written by the time you return to class on Thursday. If you do not have this many pages written, you must have a parent contact me to be sure you have permission to be running behind.See full theme paper schedule below.

5) Please proofread as you go along, and have your parents proofread it frequently as you go along, too, so you can have their feedback if your story needs help to have it make sense or be clear.

The first full draft of your story will need to be completed sometime in April. (It must be completely done—though not necessarily fully proofread and corrected—sometime before class on Tuesday, May 1, unless you have an approved extension).

Once your story is done, you will do a final proofread—and have your parent do one, too—before turning in your entire story packet with your proofed (by you and your parent), corrected (by you, based on their suggestions) D1 on Thursday, May 3.
Again, the completed, proofread, corrected D1 of your theme story is due to me no later than Thursday, May 3. (If you have an approved extension because of excused absences or extenuating circumstances, you will turn it in according to the schedule we worked out.)

NOTE: Once you have completed your story, whenever that is, send me a text or an email letting me know that is complete and how many pages it is.The next step after that will be to proofread it well—then print it and have a parent or other adult proofread it well, too—before it comes to me as your complete D1.

Since you will all finish your stories at different times, each of you will complete and turn in your D1 at a different time. (You will not turn in another copy of your paper to me until you turn in the completed, proofread D1.)

ALSO, DAILY:

+ Read your (approved) book for pleasure, aiming for 30 minutes each day. Mark the number of minutes on your Reading Log as you go along—in multiples of five, rounded down—and have a parent initial it in the box each day. The April Reading Log will be due on Tuesday, 5/1/18.

+ Write in your journal each day (upside-down writer’s notebook entries), setting a timer for five minutes and writing in first/second person as we’ve practiced in class. Don’t forget to bring it back to class each Tuesday/Thursday!

+ Keep reviewing your four memorized Scripture memory verses (Titus 2:11-14, Ephesians 4:29-32, Philippians 4:4-8, 1 Chronicles 29:11-13).

+ Keep reviewing your memorized poem to be sure you are keeping it in your memory.

+ Make your bed!

NOTE: At any point during Quarter 4, if you choose to memorize and recite the poem "The Lamb" (by William Blake) perfectly from memory, I will give you an extra quiz grade in your average for the quarter. Let me know at the beginning of class once you have accomplished this, should you choose to do so.
