Due on Tuesday, 1/23/18
Aurgh! I didn’t want to have another Snow Day today, but the
Lord had other plans. I am confident He will show me how we should proceed and
will give us the ability to finish everything on time. Just bear with me as I
shuffle how this section of material is usually taught!
1) Only proceed to #2 after
you have made the list of at least three possibilities for each of the
following categories (which was due in class today, so hopefully you’ve already
done it!):
* What is the thing in David's pocket?
* Who or what are the "creatures"?
* What are they up to?
* What was David's "discovery"?
* What does the letter to Cathy say?
* What will Richard do when he gets to Room 228 and David
isn't there?
Put this list safely
into your notebook to turn in next Tuesday.
2) Using the list you made–in conjunction with the dreaming
and scheming and brainstorming you did while completing your homework–type up
a new list of those six questions above, but with the final choice you think
you want to use for your story, for each question. (For example, what have you
decided that the thing in David’s pocket will be, when you continue the story?
Not just possibilities—tell what you have settled on.) Make a final decision
for all six questions, type it up, and
email it to me at my regular address as soon as it is completed.
BE SURE YOU HAVE BOTH
(1) YOUR NAME AND (2) THE TITLE OF THE ASSIGNMENT IN BOTH THE
NAME OF YOUR DOCUMENT AND IN THE SUBJECT LINE OF YOUR EMAIL.
DO IT THIS WAY FROM
NOW ON AND FOR ALWAYS!
3) In your Writer’s
Inc book, look up plot line on p. 259. Make a large copy the graphic
display that you see there (you may do it by hand) and label each part
carefully. Also look up each of the following terms in the “Literary Terms”
section of your book and type up the definitions.
* plot
* plot line
* exposition
* rising action
* climax
* falling action
* resolution (denouement)
* protagonist
* antagonist
* foreshadowing (p. 257 and p. 125)
Email this document
to me at my regular email address as soon as it is completed. (See all caps
above for formatting and don’t forget!)
4) Hopefully as you’ve completed #1, 2, and 3 above, you
have developed some good idea about what you think is going on in story and how
you will continue it. You have a decision to make at this point: continue with
the Cathy scenario, switch back to the David scenario, or switch back to the
Richard scenario. (You may also opt to create a fourth scenario, with a new
character, if you choose, but only if you have a good reason for doing so and a
good plan for where you’re going with it.) Once you’ve made your decision, text it to me to let me know.
5) Begin (or complete) your next opening verse essay. It
will be due on next Thursday, 1/25.
6) Be sure you've completed the following assignments,
from previous days:
à In
your Writer’s Inc. book, read pages 85-98. Take notes about
what you think is important.
à Read
to page 130 in the Mark Rodriguez book.
à Bring
both of your Scripture memory cards to class. Be prepared to recite both of
your memory verses. Practice to get it word-perfect, with nice flow!
-----
Also, daily:
+ Read your (approved) book for pleasure, aiming for 30
minutes daily. Mark the number of minutes on your Reading Log as you go
along—in multiples of five, rounded down—and have a parent initial it in the
box each day. The January Reading Log will be due on Thursday, 2/1/18.
+ Make your bed! :)
-----
