HW from Thursday, 1/24/19

Due on Tuesday, 1/29/19

1) After thinking about and planning out what you ultimately want to happen in your mystery story, make a plot line diagram of all the major events in your plot. I would recommend making a numbered list first, then plotting it on the plot line. Use a sheet of plain computer paper to make your plot line diagram.

2) Read all of p.141 in your Writer's Inc. book—the sections entitled #4 ("Hooking Your Reader") and #5 ("Keeping the Reader Interested"), including the boxes containing the sections "Use sensory details," "Use specific action," and "Use dialogue."

3) Continue memorizing your chosen Scripture memory verse (Titus 2:11-14 or Ephesians 4:29-32). I will give extra credit to those who are ready to recite it next Tuesday, but it is DUE to be recited next Thursday, 1/31. Practice, practice, practice using the techniques on the handout we discussed! Do not put this off or you will not be able to recite it word perfect, with bold confidence.

4) Finish reading the introductory pages iThe Extraordinary Ordinary Life of Mark Rodriguez (henceforth called “the Mark Rodriguez book”). In your writer's notebook, as entry #2 for Quarter 3, write your thoughts and reactions after hearing of the events surrounding the night that Mark Rodriguez went home to be with the Lord.

5)  Read in the Mark Rodriguez book the prologue all the way to page 49. You may read more if you would like, but you should read through all of Part I (to page 49) before next Tuesday.

NOTE: You may mark the minutes read for this assignment on your reading log, as we discussed yesterday in class. Mark it as a fractional number, with the first being the number of minutes you read in your regular Reading Log book and the second being the number of minutes in the Mark Rodriguez book. If you didn’t read in either one, mark it as zero. Examples: 15/30 (15 minutes regular book, 30 minutes MR book), 0/60 (no reading in regular book, an hour reading MR book), 45/0 (45 minutes in regular book, nothing in MR book).

-------

Also, daily:

+ Read your (approved) book for pleasure—or the Mark Rodriguez book—aiming for 30 minutes daily. Mark the number of minutes on your Reading Log as you go along—in multiples of five, rounded down—and have a parent initial it in the box each day. The January Reading Log is due on Thursday, January 31.

+ Continue to print out each homework blog entry, check off each assignment as you complete it, and have your parent sign the completed, printed sheet. Bring it to class each day.
