HW from 3/26/13

* Be sure you have completed both sides of the handout entitled "Theme" story plans.  It is now overdue.

* Be sure you have completed the start to your story. It is now overdue. 

* Be sure you have completed and turned in the three cinquain poems that were worked on in class.  If you didn't finish or were absent, you must complete them and turn them in on Thursday.

* Signed Reading Log due Thursday!

* Practice delivering your selected recitation poem from memory.  Be sure you are comfortable with the memorization and are reciting the poem with confidence and expressive delivery. You will be reciting it to the class after the KEYS spring break.  Do not put this off!

You should be prepared to recite any of the three memory verses at any time (Psalm 141:3, Titus 2:11-14, and Ephesians 4:29-32).  You might choose to review one verse each day so that they stay fresh in your mind.

HW from 3/21/13

"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.  They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.  I say to myself, 'The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.'" - Lamentations 3:22-24

* Be sure you have completed both sides of the handout entitled "Theme" story plans.  This will be turned in on Tuesday, when you will also turn in the start of your story.  (See below.)  Please be sure to complete a rough outline of your plot before you begin your story.  Have a pretty good idea of what you're planning to have happen (plot) and what "take-away point" you want your readers to get (theme) before you begin!

* Follow the directions at the bottom of the handout with the two different conventional ways to start a story.  Choose which option you would like to begin with--i.e. begin with the setting or begin with the characters--and start your story. You need to write 1-3 good paragraphs (like the models on the handout), focusing either on (1) mostly setting with a little bit of character, or (2) mostly character with a little bit of setting.  Remember to employ all the techniques you've learned for enhancing description in your writing.  Your story-start must be at least one typewritten page, following standard form (i.e. double-spaced, Times New Roman or Arial 12-point font, standard one-inch margins, standard 5-space paragraph indentation).

* Complete both sides of the handout entitled "Theme" story plans, which I gave you yesterday.  You will show this to the sub tomorrow to receive credit for having done it, but it will not be turned in until next Tuesday, when you will also turn in the start of your story.

NOTE: You will follow the directions at the bottom of the handout with the two different conventional ways to start a story--i.e. begin with the setting or begin with the characters--for homework over the weekend, to be turned in next Tuesday.  There will be more directions in class tomorrow--and here on the homework blog--but I just wanted you to recognize that you do not have to do that for tomorrow.)

* I will not be in class Thursday as I will be attending Ian's service at 11:30.  You will have a sub and will be completing a poetry assignment to be turned in at the end of class.  Please also come prepared with the necessary materials to do all of the following if you finish early: work on your theme story, read your Reading Log book, and review your memorization for your recitation poem and memory verses.
