HW from Tuesday, 2/27/18

Due on Thursday, 3/1/18

1) Haiku Poems:

* Print out the graded Markup of your three Haiku poems. Make any suggested corrections to any erroneous syllabication you may have had.

* On three separate sheets of clean, unlined paper (printer paper is fine), hand-write or “copy and paste” your Haiku poems (one on each page). Make your handwriting or font size large enough to easily read the poems, but not so large that the poem no longer consists of only three lines of text (i.e. your second line of text should not be so large as to “wrap around” onto the third line).

* Illustrate your Haiku poems in whatever ways you are able and would like to—crayon, colored pencil, watercolors, etc. Write your name and the date on the back of the pages in pencil. Be prepared to turn in your Markup copy and all three illustrated poems tomorrow.

2) Your February Reading Log is also due, signed by a parent, tomorrow.

3) Review for your Scripture memory quiz tomorrow by using the review sheet you created yesterday with your partner and any other methods you have found useful. Pay special attention to the areas you are still making mistakes.

-----
Also, daily:

+ Read your (approved) book for pleasure, aiming for 30 minutes daily. Mark the number of minutes on your Reading Log as you go along—in multiples of five, rounded down—and have a parent initial it in the box each day. The February Reading Log will be due on Thursday, 3/1/18.

+ Review your four memorized Scripture memory verses (Titus 2:11-14, Ephesians 4:29-32, Philippians 4:4-8, 1 Chronicles 29:11-13) daily.

-----

HW from Thursday, 2/22/18

Due on AND BEFORE Tuesday, 2/27/18

1) Be sure you have completed your three Haiku poems. (If you’ve been absent you may have missed writer’s notebook entries #5 and #6, which was to write these three Haiku poems.) Check them for correct syllabication and to make sure they’re good. (Don’t send me anything like some of those terrible ones we were working with yesterday in class!) Type the three Haiku poems, double-spaced, into one document (for most of you this will mean adding the second two to the first one you already emailed me) and email it to my Markup address before the weekend if possible.

2) Continue writing your mystery story. If some unusual situation has delayed your progress on your story (sickness, other excused absences, or getting started slowly because I made you get approval from me before you could continue), you must contact me to request an extension to the following schedule. Otherwise, the schedule for the completion of your story is as follows:

* If you have not, complete a full draft (D4) of your story as soon as possible. Then proofread it carefully on the computer, making any corrections or changes you notice are needed. Print a good copy to give your parent(s). Have them proofread it and sign it to indicate that they did so. Make their suggested corrections over the weekend.

* On Tuesday, 2/27, turn in your D4 packet in the envelope with all parts of your mystery story, as follows: the list of possible things in David's pocket, your plot line diagram with your story line items on it, your original D1 and D2 (with the graded ones and your printed Markup copy), your D3 packet (your graded "blue copy" with the completed grading rubric on top), and your D4 beautiful copy stapled on top of your parents' signed proofread copy.

3) Make sure you have made all four Scripture memory cards for all of the verses on the handout. All four Scripture memory verses must be ready to be recited in class on Thursday, 2/22at any time. (You will be having a quiz on all four memory verses at any time as well.)

HW from Thursday, 2/15/18

Due on AND BEFORE Tuesday, 2/20/18

1) Finish the Haiku poem you began in your writer’s notebook in class today. Be sure you love it, it is about nature, and that the syllabication is 5 – 7 – 5 over the three lines. Type it up, skipping lines, and email it as an attachment to my Markup address before the weekend. Label everything properly.

2) Make a new Scripture memory card for the other verse on the handout. Both new Scripture memory verses (Philippians 4:4-8 AND 1 Chronicles 29:11-14) must be ready to be recited in class next Thursday, 2/22. (If you haven’t yet mastered the first two verses, you must do so now. You will be having a quiz on all four memory verses on Tuesday, 2/27.)

3) Continue writing your mystery story. You should write at least 1-2 pages every day until your story is completed. The goal at this point is to work toward finishing your story as soon as you can, but please write well—we want a good story, after all, and that takes care!

NOTE: The schedule for the completion of your story is as follows:

* By next Thursday, 2/22, you must have completed a full draft (D4) of your story. It must be finished and proofread by you at that point, and a good copy printed out to show me in class. (This will be the copy you will give your parent(s) to proofread so that you can make their suggested corrections over the weekend.)

* On Tuesday, 2/27, you will turn in your D4 packet in the envelope with all other parts of your mystery story, including your D3 packet with your blue copy on top and the grading rubric for your D3.
