* Read your (approved) book for pleasure 30 minutes daily. Mark it on your Reading Log!
* Bring all previous parts of your mystery story (preliminary notes, plot diagram, graded D1, etc.) to turn in for the grading of the story this weekend. If you have not yet done so, complete your final D2 according to criteria in previous blog posts and email it to me.
* Look up and read about haiku in your Writer's Inc. book (p.242). Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry having three unrhymed lines and a very strict syllable pattern (5-7-5). Conventionally it is also about nature or the seasons.
* Study the examples in the book. Notice that each of these examples consists of one sentence, spread over three lines in a strict 5-7-5 syllable pattern.
* Here is another example involving three separate phrases (not all one sentence) but still following the 5-7-5 rule:
Green grass in April (5 syllables)
Birds begin to sing in trees (7 syllables)
Children play outside (5 syllables)
* Write three separate haiku poems, each about nature. Have at least one that involves one sentence spread out over three lines (like the example in your book), and at least one that is three distinct phrases (like the example above).
* Research Saint Valentine and come prepared to share one thing about him that you did not already know or that was not mentioned in our discussion in class on Tuesday.
* Return your signed report card, if you haven't already.
* Be prepared with all three of your Scripture memory verses (I Chronicles 29:11-14, Philippians 4:4-8, and either Titus 2:11-14 or Ephesians 4:29-32) at any time! Keep reviewing all three because you will be expected to keep all memorized verses in your mind all year! Review one verse each day to keep them fresh!
