HW from 4/5/12

Due on 4/10/12:

* Read your (approved) book for pleasure 30 minutes daily. Mark it on your Reading Log.

* Between now and Easter Sunday, read Matthew 26:17-28:20. Make a quick chart delineating which events took place on which day (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). That chart is due Tuesday.

* Over the weekend, be thinking about what you want your final story to be about. Consider what theme you might want to present. (See here for a slide show about literary theme--I did not make it, but it is pretty good--and look here for another list of literary themes. We will talk more about the concept of theme in the weeks to come.)

* On Monday, follow the directions on the bottom of the handout I gave you. First--on a sheet of notebook paper--write whether you are starting with setting or character and which point of view you're using (first or third). Then begin typing your story. It should be at least one full paragraph of several sentences, but no more than one full typed page (12-point Arial font, double-spaced, one-inch margins, standard paragraph indentation). You do not need to email it to me; just print a copy and bring it (and the previously mentioned sheet of notebook paper) to class on Tuesday.

* Be prepared at any time with all your memory work, which consists of:
+ f
our Bible verses (I Chronicles 29:11-13, Philippians 4:4-8, Titus 2:11-14, Ephesians 4:29-32)
+ the poem you selected to memorize and recite to the class
+ the William Blake poem "The Lamb"
+ the first stanza of the Barry Cornwall poem "The Sea"

* We will continue class recitation of your selected memorized poems on Tuesday. You will be chosen by random drawing. Be sure you are ready if your name is chosen!

* You should already have analyzed all of the poems in the poetry packet for the rhyme scheme. Be sure you have written out the letter pattern next to the title of each poem.

* You also should have already scanned the poems on the first, second, and third sheets of the poetry packet for the meter. Be sure you have given the rhythmic foot/feet for each poem on those three pages.
