HW from Tuesday, 4/15/14

For Thursday, 4/17/14

1.  Read over the handout you were given about the HSLDA poetry contest.  You DO NOT have to write the poem yet.  Just know that it's coming.  Your May blog post will be the poem you will write for this contest.  For now, just read about it.  And look up and listen to the referenced songs if you want to.

2.  Add the descriptive paragraph you wrote in class today to your story at a natural place that makes sense in the story, given what you're describing in the paragraph.  Feel free to modify it some, to make it flow better.  Put the classwork paragraph you wrote today in class in your theme story envelope with the other papers.

3.  Continue with your story.  Your G2 (first 10 pages) is due before class time Thursday.  (Note that if you turn it in before Wednesday you get 1 point of extra credit added to your G2 grade.)  They are graded and returned in the order they're received.

THEME STORY GUIDELINES (Please read each item below carefully!)
Your completed theme story must be at least 5 full pages--but no more than 15 full pages--long.
* Do not email your paper to Markup unless it has been proofread well by both you and your parents and then corrected again!!
* Your grade will suffer significantly if it appears that your paper has not been proofed and corrected!!
* Do not email your paper to Markup except at the following graded points:
+ your first few paragraphs - a homework grade - DONE - print Markup for your folder
+ your first four pages (the G1) - DONE - print Markup for your folder
+ your first ten pages (the G2) - Due before Th, 4/17 (extra credit for earlier - see below).
(NOTE: If your story is shorter than ten pages, send your completed paper as the G2.)
* Correctly label your story and your email with your name, the letter/number of the assignment (G1, G2, D1), and the date.

4.  Continue with your memorization as indicated below:

VERSES:
* You must be ready to recite your third and fourth memory verses on Thursday, 4/17.

POEM:
* You will need to be ready to recite your poem--flawlessly and with good, dynamic delivery--on Tuesday, 4/22.  It must be memorized by Thursday, 4/17.
NOTE: You will practice dynamic recitation from 4/17-4/22...in front of the mirror, in front of your family, filming and watching yourself, etc.  Be ready to be entertaining and engaging as you recite your poem.

Also (daily):

Read your (approved) book for pleasure 30 minutes daily.  Mark it on your reading log as you go along. The March reading log is due, signed by a parent, on Thursday, May 1.

Bear in mind that your monthly blog post entry is due anytime during the month.  Please type it up, email it to me, and turn in a hard copy to me in class before the last day of the month.  You may write about anything you would like to.  Follow the directions on the sheet I gave you for the 12-Months-of-2014 Blog Challenge.  (See handout.)

+ Work on your Scripture memory and Scripture memory review.  You need to be ready to recite any of the four completed memory verses perfectly from memory any time I call on you in class.

+ Review daily the material from our writing and grammar lessons in class so that you can more easily learn and memorize (as we go along) the different things we are studying.  Be ready for a quiz anytime on all that we've learned so far.
