1) Make all suggested corrections/revisions to the D1 of your story.  Save it, labeling the corrected version as  your D2.

2) "Select all" and make your paper single-spaced (preferably using 1.15 spacing).

3) Email the corrected, single-spaced story to me as an attachment to my regular email.  If it is sent before noon, you will receive extra credit for the D2.  It is due no later than 5:00 p.m.  At that time I will begin averaging your final grades and will not be able to receive any more papers to grade.

4) Print a beautiful copy of your single-spaced story and place it in your envelope with all the other drafts and materials.  You must return that envelope with the corrected D2 in it to class tomorrow.

2) Write in your writer's notebook each day.  Time yourself and write for at least five minutes.  You are writing a second-person journal addressed to the Lord.  In second-person point of view, you will use first-, second-, and third-person pronouns as you write directly to someone—in this case, God—about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences.  Feel free to make requests, as well.  This is almost like writing down your prayers.  Tell the Lord, and ask from Him, whatever you like. 
NOTE: These thoughts are private between you and God.  I will not read them but will only skim them enough to be sure you really are completing the assignment.  You should have at least five entries by the time you return to class on Tuesday.

On a sheet of loose-leaf paper, number the items and, for each, write the title of the poem, give the rhyme scheme, and write the meter (both the rhythmic pattern and the number-based meter word, e.g. iambic tetrameter).  Have it hot-dog bun ready to turn in as you walk into class. 

2) Your April reading log is due, signed, tomorrow. Also have it hot-dog bun ready to turn in as you walk into class. 

3) If you haven't turned in a hard copy of your April blog post, have it hot-dog bun ready to turn in as you walk into class as well. (Email the blog post before Thursday to be on time.)

1.  Poetry Recitation Party tomorrow during class.  Be ready to recite your poem, expressively, from memory.  Be good at it!  (Students who signed up to bring finger-food-only snacks--and the one who agreed to bring water bottles)--please remember to bring your snack and set it up as soon as possible before class starts!)

NOTE: Practice, practice practice reciting your memorized poem!!  You will not simply be evaluated on how solid your memorization is (as you were for your verses), but you will also be evaluated on your delivery of it.  How expressive were you?  Dynamic?  Interesting?  Practice reciting it slowly, with expression,  for your parents, your siblings, your friends, in front of the mirror, filming yourself and watching it, etc.  Don't let yourself feel goofy or silly or shy or embarrassed.  You can do this well!

1.  Take a moment to consider the meaning of this day, Good Friday, and what happened on our behalf those many years ago.  Re-read the story from the Bible.  Enjoy the traditions your family has in place to commemorate the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Happy Easter weekend!

2.  Visit this website and watch the poetry recitations of the following four young students:

UPDATE on your THEME STORIES:
I am busily grading the G2s of your theme story (the G2 is the first 10 pages of your story) in the order I received them into Markup.  Once I return it to you, you will make the suggested edits and corrections, but for now, you should continue with your story toward completion even if you don't have your G2 back yet.  Remember, your story cannot be longer than 15 pages in the end.  You must have your story finished (but not proofread and corrected) by next Thursday, 4/24.  Please send me an email at my regular email address to let me know when you have finished your story (D1) and are in the proofreading stage.  Do not send your D1 to me--not at Markup and not to my regular email!

1.  Read over the handout you were given about the HSLDA poetry contest.  You DO NOT have to write the poem yet.  Just know that it's coming.  Your May blog post will be the poem you will write for this contest.  For now, just read about it.  And look up and listen to the referenced songs if you want to. 

2.  Add the descriptive paragraph you wrote in class today to your story at a natural place that makes sense in the story, given what you're describing in the paragraph.  Feel free to modify it some, to make it flow better.  Put the classwork paragraph you wrote today in class in your theme story envelope with the other papers. 

3.  Continue with your story.  Your G2 (first 10 pages) is due before class time Thursday.  (Note that if you turn it in before Wednesday you get 1 point of extra credit added to your G2 grade.)  They are graded and returned in the order they're received.

1.  Read the handout that I gave you about meter in poetry (front and back).  Read over the four poems that I gave you and decide what meter you think each of them has.  Give both the rhythmic pattern (iambic, trochaic, anapestic, or dactylic) and the number of feet you think it has (____-meter).  Write this information next to the poem on the handout, under the rhyme scheme you wrote.  Then make a paper to turn in with the title of the poem, the rhyme scheme, and the meter written out on it for each of the four poems.  Have this paper hot-dog bun style ready to turn in when you walk in the door or I will not take it and you will get a zero.

2.  Continue with your story as indicated below:

2.  Those who have turned your G1 in on Markup: As soon as you receive it back (I'm grading them as fast as I can!), make the suggested corrections.  In the meantime, continue with your story.  You must add pages to your story daily at a rate of at least two per school day between class periods.  [This puts you at six pages by Thursday and ten pages by next Tuesday, 4/15.]  DO NOT EMAIL ME YOUR STORY AGAIN UNTIL YOU'VE COMPLETED YOUR G2 (ten pages, due by next Tuesday).  Be sure to label your G2 at the top of your paper and in the subject line of your email to Markup and to change the date.

1.  Complete the plot line chart I gave you yesterday for your theme story.  Giving good detail, list the main events that you are planning to have in your rising action, what the climax of your story will be, and how you plan to wrap things up.  At the top of the sheet, write your name and the theme that you are planning to use for your story. 

2.  Choose a poem to memorize and recite for the class.  Type (or cut and paste) the poem, along with the title and author, and print two copies--one to turn in and one to use while memorizing.
 NOTE: Each stanza must be at least four lines long, and your poem must be the following length:
* 1 stanza: with the highest possible grade (for word-perfect recitation) being a 65 (D) 
* 2 stanzas: with the highest possible grade (for word-perfect recitation) being a 75 (C)
* 3 stanzas: with the highest possible grade (for word-perfect recitation) being an 85 (B)
* 4 stanzas: with the highest possible grade (for word-perfect recitation) being a 95 (A)
* more than 4 stanzas: it will be possible to earn in excess of 100 (A+) for poems longer than 4 stanzas
